Dear friends and family of ALS, It is with sadness in our hearts that we wish to inform you that the Lord has taken his servant, Dr. Steve Witte out of this world of sorrows to be with him in eternal peace. Dr. Witte, along with several of his family members died tragically in a fire this weekend. Please keep his wife, Mary, and their entire family in your prayers as they mourn this loss and await a joyous resurrection. For now, we cry, but we trust that the time is coming when Jesus will wipe away every tear from our eyes. We will share funeral arrangements and other details as they become available....

On May 25, Dr. Matt Doebler addressed the graduating class of Immanuel Lutheran College. He encouraged them that with God you can face the future with courage and purpose. ALS prays that the futures of these young people would be blessed in earthly ways, but also that God would give them a faith that always looks to him no matter what the life circumstances. ALS also hopes that from amongst these people God would raise up leaders for his Church to shepherd the next generation of believers....

This last week a group of churches from various places in East Asia met for worship, fellowship, and future planning. At the conference, ALS leaders had the opportunity to share an update on our programs and gather input on how better to serve these partners. ⁩We look forward to our continued cooperation in serving God’s people!...

As we approach the festival of Pentecost, ALS takes a moment to step back and praise God for the work He has done throughout the Church in all of Asia. By God’s grace ALS works to raise up leaders for the church across 15 countries and regions and even more people groups. The same message that reached such a diverse group at Pentecost continues to go out and transcend so many barriers to bring grace to people in Asia and throughout the world....

As we near the end of the Spring 2024 semester, we thank all our staff, faculty, and students for all the hard work they have put in over the past few months. Prof. Emeritus Dr. Glen Thompson has written an article for China Source, which focuses on an aspect of his newly released book, Jingjiao: The Earliest Christian Church in China. He argues that “Nestorian” is a pejorative misnomer for the Jingjiao. Christians ought not label the Jingjiao as heretical, but rather thank God for the Christian witness that existed so long ago in China. ALS representatives took a trip to Taiwan to connect with our sister church body there. Recruitment director, Tony Barthels, preached on the theme that God gives all Christian the privilege to invite others to “come and see” Jesus. We were also happy to see that our brothers and sisters are safe and sound, even as aftershocks from the April 3 earthquake continue to rumble throughout Taiwan....
