God has blessed ALS with an amazing (and unique) opportunity! We now are partnering with our SALEM church brothers and sisters to serve a group of Hong Kong believers in New Zealand. They want a solid theological education in order to achieve their goal of establishing biblically sound churches in New Zealand. So… As part of this plan, they invited ALS Professor, Dr. Cheung to New Zealand to teach them a class in person. We pray for these believers and look forward to serving alongside them as they look to expand God’s kingdom in New Zealand....

It feels good to know, doesn't it? If you are among a group of friends or coworkers, and everyone is wondering about something, it feels good to be the one in the know. As everyone fixes their eyes on you in silence, just waiting to hear what you have to tell them, you smile to yourself and relish the opportunity to share the news. It feels good to be the one in the know....

Join ALS friends, staff, and faculty as we turn to our heavenly Father in prayer asking him to have mercy on all those in Taiwan who have been affected by the earthquake. We ask that their every need, physical, emotional, and spiritual are taken care of in this difficult time and that God’s goodness and eternal promises would somehow shine all the brighter in this dim time....

As Jesus speaks words of peace and commissioning, remember the setting. His disciples were cowering behind locked doors. They had just heard from a resurrection eyewitness, yet doubts still echoed. But suddenly there was Jesus: speaking peace to their doubting hearts and sending them to a world where doubt and fear still ruled many hearts....

Yes. In Chinese today is called “Suffering Friday,” because Jesus suffered, but in English we say “Good Friday.” Why “good”? Our sins put Jesus on that cross 2000 years ago and that is sad, but what makes Good Friday good is what Jesus did on that Friday. He willingly took our place. Our sin has no power over us any longer because of him. What a good good Friday! We here at ALS are praying that you’ll have some moments this weekend to dwell on these eternal facts. Happy Good Friday and Happy Easter too!...

For some of us, if we are so blessed, "father" is among the warmest of words. For others, "father" names an emptiness, a familiar ache for someone who combines soul-calming strength with tenderest affection, take-to-the-grave wisdom with predictable grace. Someone who is completely yours....

Last week, the ALS governing board met to discuss the seminary's programs across Asia. During the meeting, Rev. Jon Leach was also named as the next board chairman. Rev. Leach replaces Mr. Jim Holman who recently stepped down from the board. We are thankful for the service of Mr. Jim Holman and pray that God continues to bless him. We also pray that God will bless Rev. Leach as he carries out this important work....

"Finished" the sound trailed from Jesus' lips as he gasped for breath on the cross. There was purpose behind that word. Earlier in his ministry-according to John's gospel account-when Jesus said that he had "food to eat that you know nothing about," he explained to his confused disciples, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work." A short while later, Jesus affirmed that "the very work that the Father has given me to finish, and which I am doing, testifies that the Father has sent me." In both the original text and in our English translation, the same verb is used in each of these statements: "finish." The work of Jesus was to finish his Father's will. ...

In February, Dr. Cheung’s research led him to Xi’an to do research on Christianity in China during the Tang Dynasty. Christianity was known to some in China as the “Jingjiao.” Evidence strongly suggests that these teachers of the “Jingjiao” were the first Syriac missionaries to come to China. Dr. Cheung’s research is a great reminder that God is in control and his Word went out all over the world throughout the ages and in this case, the Tang Dynasty!...

We should not pass over those words in the middle, "and so that Scripture would be fulfilled," too quickly. They are not an incidental aside: they are at the heart of Jesus' life and ministry, and they reveal the heart of our Messiah to us....
