As we approach the festival of Pentecost, ALS takes a moment to step back and praise God for the work He has done throughout the Church in all of Asia. By God’s grace ALS works to raise up leaders for the church across 15 countries and regions and even more people groups. The same message that reached such a diverse group at Pentecost continues to go out and transcend so many barriers to bring grace to people in Asia and throughout the world....

It takes courage to speak the Word of God. The apostle Paul knew this from experience. Once, in a city called Lystra, his audience pummeled him with stones and left him for dead. He was flogged and imprisoned in Philippi, chased out of Thessalonica and Berea, and sneered at in Athens....

As a father of twins, it’s not hard for me to understand why a twin would have a problem with people being sure they had seen something. A twin regularly encounters people who believe they saw what the twin knows they did NOT see. “It was my twin sister that you saw” is regular speech for a twin girl. Thomas wanted more than mere words that his companions had really seen Jesus....

Prof. Emeritus Dr. Glen Thompson has written an article for China Source, which focuses on an aspect of his newly released book, Jingjiao: The Earliest Christian Church in China. He argues that “Nestorian” is a pejorative misnomer for the Jingjiao. Christians ought not label the Jingjiao as heretical, but rather thank God for the Christian witness that existed so long ago in China. Go check it out at chinasource.org (under Resources> Blog entries) !Here’s the link to the article for the facebook post:https://www.chinasource.org/resource-library/blog-entries/reclaiming-jingjiao-the-true-story-of-christianity-in-ancient-china/...

ALS representatives took a trip to Taiwan to connect with our sister church body there. Recruitment director, Tony Barthels, preached on the theme that God gives all Christian the privilege to invite others to “come and see” Jesus. We were also happy to see that our brothers and sisters are safe and sound, even as aftershocks from the April 3 earthquake continue to rumble throughout Taiwan....

In the Middle East, it is common to greet one another by saying, “Peace.” That was true already at the time when Jesus rose from the dead. So when he appeared to his disciples and said, “Peace be with you,” it could have been understood as a simple greeting....

Prof. Janke and Dr. Doebler have been reassigned to Australia to begin new gospel work that involves reaching out to Chinese and other immigrants in Brisbane, discipling the believers, raising up leaders, and helping them start new groups. Dr. Doebler will continue to teach for ALS online and in person for intensive courses as there is opportunity. We are excited for this new chapter of their ministries as they serve God "down under" in gospel ministry....

What brings you joy? Does it come when you run a mile in under ten minutes? Perhaps it is when you are flush with cash. Or it may simply be when you are with the people you love. Interestingly, in all of these examples, joy is the product of outward circumstances in your life....
